Well............... lets start the commotion. This will be about my journey of music and sound systems from a long time ago to present day. I can offer some help and ideas with regards to speaker design and please, if I make incorrect statements on any of my entries or I go South, please leave a comment. We all learn something every day. I have learned all my background from reading, snooping, listening and paying attention. I want to make an interesting site, so I won't go into specs about any of this stuff, just the facts.
Now, if you are a baby boomer, like myself, and like music, chances are you may still have some old equipment around that you still use, if not, get it out and running. These amps and receivers were built like tanks. If you are of the younger generation, I hope you will find this interesting. You will see how we listened to music 50+ years ago. Yes, there was music then, some was good and some so so. Actually, the number one song on my birthday was Cold, Cold Heart by Tony Bennett. Gee........... was Mr. Bennett on American Idol recently?
Most of the above equipment is still available on biding sites, but is becoming very scarce now. I have more to post, and will touch on each pic. Heathkit is where most of us started. That would be the black and white pic from Heathkits web site. It is similar to the one we had at home. This is what sparked all of my interest and lucky me, my Dad and my Uncle built one. Parts were spread all over the basement for it seemed like all summer, and when things went bad, I learned at least 1 new word each night. It weighed allot, had about 15 watts of power, made a low buzzing sound and it was Mono, meaning one channel and one speaker. WOW. The speaker was from the neighbours old TV set, he set it under the coffee table, soldered more wires up, and we had music. I must say, when it was finished, my Dad was very proud of his accomplishment, and when I think back now, they did it with what they had at that time. No one to ask for help, no Q&A on the Web just hit and miss and likely crude instructions.
I will talk a little more on this amp next time and my modifications to it. More new words I learned from Dad. Hope you are still reading.
